Musk Flower is built around the Côte d'Azur: still water, warm light, gardens along the coast. It opens on rhubarb and violet, a bright, playful accord, before peony and raspberry soften it further. Follow the notes down and the mood changes. Vetiver brings a woody note to the heart, rose a sensual one, and carnation something slightly spiced. Musk pulls it closer to skin, warmer and more intimate than the top notes suggested. Sandalwood, leather, and smoke anchor the base with real weight, while tonka bean tips it toward something sweeter, closer to vanilla than fruit. Whatever lingers after a few hours has little to do with rhubarb or raspberry.
Perfumer Kévin Mathys composed it. Self-taught early on, he built his own collection of raw materials while studying in Montpellier. He's now a senior perfumer at CPL Aromas in Dubai, trained for five years under Sebastian Reuter at Bell F&F in Leipzig, with earlier stints at Symrise and Sensient. Vetiver and leather are among his preferred materials, and both turn up here. His work often turns on contrast, pairing fresh notes with deeper, heavier ones. Musk Flower runs on the same instinct.
The fragrance is one half of HFC Paris's new Musk Collection, paired with Sunmusk. Both bottles share a gold cap and a circular medallion set into the glass: white with a sunburst for Sunmusk, cobalt blue with flowers and butterflies in pink and gold for Musk Flower. One nods to daylight, the other to a garden in bloom. Musk, present in both formulas, is the actual link between the two.
